Message Some may call this an excuse to showoff a new piece of equipment I picked up a few weeks back, but I'm thrilled to finally have one - having the ability to cast aluminum parts as well as precision machine them opens the doors to many new parts.

The weapon:

I used this machine to fabricate a new bearing/seal housing for the electric water pump to fit a new JohnCrane compact bellows shaft seal and am quite pleased with the accuracy - holding tolerances down to 0.001". I carved up one of these as a prototype to hide one of the eye-sores of the engine bay (still need to cut out its mate for the other side):

It is designed for the KYB AGX shock absorbers and the bore is threaded to match the stem for this shock. It simply screws into place. I machined it to have a similar appearance to the CAS. I doubt a pair of these would cost more than ~$40 in production quantities and others could be produced to fit different types of shock absorbers.

Any suggestions on a different cut style are appreciated - the "CAS" look seemed most fitting to me but I'm sure there are other preferences.

I would be happy to entertain the idea of handing this off to my local CNC shop for production and run a batch for those interested in getting a pair.
